I love a good, healthy oatmeal most days of the week. On those other rare occasions, we like to eat fun stuff like waffles or biscuits and gravy.
Our GG is southern and from Tennessee and biscuits are their thing. We also grew up going to amish restaurants (And later worked there). And man, those biscuits and gravy were so good!
We also had fruit, scrambled eggs and hot sauce, and toast if the kids didn't like biscuits. A quick tip for the eggs, I like to stick the white bowl in the oven at 150 so the eggs stay warm.
For the biscuits, I used Martha Stewart's recipe. Always use a recipe if it calls for sour cream or buttermilk!
Sausage and Gravy
Honestly, I just wing the sausage and gravy!
- Saute one pound of good sausage
- Add to the sausage 2 TBS of flour and stir for around 2 minutes
- Add 1-1/2 cups of 2 percent or whole milk and stir with a metal spoon (not a whisk or it will break up sausage)
- Add in dash of salt, pepper, vinegar and hot sauce
